RS Berkane Gains Advantage Over ASEC Mimosas in CAF Cup Quarterfinals

The RS Berkane team clinched a valuable victory on Wednesday, defeating ASEC Mimosas 1-0 in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the CAF (Confederation of African Football) Confederation Cup, held at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

The players from Berkane, fueled by great motivation and unwavering morale, demonstrated remarkable tactical discipline. With a well-structured collective play and the individual skills of their players, they managed to rise to the challenge despite the sweltering heat of Abidjan.

The only goal of the match came from Imad Riahi in the 75th minute, just six minutes after he was substituted into the game. His goal reignited hope among his teammates, allowing RS Berkane to take the lead ahead of the return match.

Despite the pressure from the Ivorian team and seven minutes of added time, the men of RS Berkane successfully defended their advantage and preserved their victory until the final whistle from the Burundian referee.

As the sole representative of Morocco in this competition, RS Berkane, which topped its group with 16 points, continues to surprise. ASEC Mimosas, on the other hand, secured their place in the quarter-finals on the last day of the group stage.

Under the leadership of Mouine Chaabani, the Berkane squad is no stranger to the CAF Cup, having won twice in 2020 and 2022, in addition to reaching the finals in 2019 and 2024.

The return match is scheduled for Wednesday, April 9, at the municipal stadium of Berkane, at 8 PM. If RS Berkane succeeds in qualifying, they will face the winner of the clash between CS Constantine and USM Alger in the semi-finals.
