Sektioui Aims for a Victorious Start in the Arab Cup

Morocco vs. Comoros: Sektioui Aims for a Winning Start in the Arab Cup

The Moroccan national team’s head coach, Tarik Sektioui, stated on Monday in Doha that the players are approaching their first match of the Qatar 2025 Arab Cup with maximum focus and a clear ambition: to secure victory against Comoros this Tuesday at the Khalifa International Stadium in Al-Rayyan (13:00 GMT+1).

In a pre-match press conference, Sektioui emphasized that the match is expected to be fiercely contested, highlighting the quality of Comoros’ gameplay and the potential of their young talents. He noted that the opponent began preparations early, unlike some Moroccan players who joined the squad later, citing Walid El Karti (Pyramids FC) as an example, as he only arrived on Sunday.

Despite these challenges, the national coach expressed satisfaction with the preparation conditions, asserting that the atmosphere within the group is characterized by professionalism and optimism. He added that the medical staff is working diligently to get players who recently participated in African competitions with their clubs back in shape.

Sektioui also announced that Achraf Bencherki would be unavailable for the first two matches in Group B due to injury. Nevertheless, he assured that the players are fully aware of their responsibilities to represent the national colors with dignity.

On his part, forward Walid Azaro mentioned that the preparations are progressing well and that the group is determined to deliver strong performances. He believes the team has the necessary experience to achieve a commendable run in the tournament. The players, he specified, will take the competition one match at a time, aiming to go as far as possible.

Comoros coach Hamad Jambay recognized the strength of the Moroccan team but stated that his players will strive for a positive result. He reminded that all teams involved aim to advance beyond the group stage.

The Moroccan team will face Comoros (December 3), Oman (December 5), and Saudi Arabia (December 8) in Group B of the Qatar 2025 Arab Cup. This edition features 16 teams from the CAF and AFC, with only the top two from each group advancing to the knockout stage.
