Shipwreck of a Panamanian Vessel Off the Coast of Laâyoune

A Panamanian-flagged merchant vessel sank on Saturday evening off the coast of Laâyoune, according to the Ministry of Transport and Logistics.

The incident followed a report of water ingress while the commercial ship “DURA BULK” was en route to the port of Laâyoune, carrying a cargo of bulk clinker, the ministry stated in a communiqué.

Following this report, the relevant authorities immediately initiated extensive search and rescue operations, successfully rescuing all crew members, the ministry informed.

The crew, all of foreign nationality, were taken care of and evacuated under safe conditions, the same source clarified.

The Ministry of Transport and Logistics also stated that it is closely coordinating with the relevant authorities to monitor the situation’s developments.

An investigation will be launched to determine the exact circumstances and causes of this maritime incident.
