Spain Reaffirms Its Support for Morocco’s Autonomy Initiative for the Sahara

Spain Affirms Support for Moroccan Autonomy Initiative
On Thursday, Spain reiterated its support for Morocco’s autonomy initiative, describing it as the "most serious, realistic, and credible" proposal to resolve the regional dispute over Western Sahara.
Following a meeting in Madrid with Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad, his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares, underscored the significance of this issue for Morocco. He commended the "serious and credible" efforts made by the Kingdom within the framework of the United Nations to achieve a mutually acceptable solution.
Introduced in 2007, Morocco’s autonomy initiative is viewed by Spain as the most concrete basis for ending the conflict. This stance is part of a growing international momentum, championed by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in favor of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara.
The Spanish minister reminded that this momentum is supported by UN Security Council Resolution 2756, which encourages the parties involved to capitalize on this positive impetus.
Through its clear position, Spain reaffirms its commitment to a lasting political solution, grounded in compromise and aligned with international efforts to resolve this regional dispute.
