Stormy rains, snowfall, and strong winds: unstable weather this Tuesday in Morocco

The General Directorate of Meteorology forecasts unstable weather for Tuesday, March 3rd, across several regions of the Kingdom, characterized by thunderstorms, snowfalls in mountainous areas, and locally strong gusts of wind, all amidst notable chill in the morning and during the night.

Cool Weather and Widespread Thunderstorms

The morning and night will remain relatively cold in the Atlas Mountains, the Rif, the southeast, and the high plateaus.

Thunderstorms, sometimes accompanied by hail, are expected in the Tanger region, west of the Mediterranean coastline, the Rif, Loukkos, Saïss, Gharb, Atlas, Souss, the central plains, as well as the northern parts of the southern provinces.

Rain showers will also affect the plains west of the Atlas, the Oulmès plateau, the phosphate plateaus, the northern Atlantic plains, the southeast, and the northern region of the East.

Snow at the Peaks and Strong Winds

Snowfalls are predicted for the peaks and heights of the High and Middle Atlas mountains.

Additionally, fairly strong gusts of wind will blow in the Tanger region, the Mediterranean coastline, the Atlas, the eastern region, the southeast, and the southern provinces, as well as in the Souss and central coasts. Sandstorms are also expected in the southern part of the Eastern region, the southeast, and the northern areas of the southern provinces.

Contrasting Temperatures Across Regions

Minimum temperatures will range between -3 and 5°C in the Atlas, between 4 and 9°C in the Rif, the southeast, and the high plateaus.

They will vary between 12 and 15°C in the Tanger region, Gharb, Saïss, the Mediterranean coastline, Souss, the southern coasts, and within the southern provinces, as well as locally in the central interior plains. In other areas, temperatures will be between 9 and 12°C.

During the day, a slight increase in temperatures is expected in the eastern part of the Mediterranean coastline and the eastern region, while a decrease is forecasted across the rest of the country.

State of the Sea

The sea will be rough to very rough along the Mediterranean coastline, slightly to moderately rough at the Strait and on other coasts, and strong to very strong between Mehdia and Tarfaya, calling for caution in maritime activities.
