Strengthening Cooperation in the Health Sector: An Agreement to Enhance Blood and Blood Product Services

In the framework of institutional cooperation and the enhancement of health services related to blood and its derivatives, the Ministry of Health, the Mohammed VI Foundation for Science and Health, and the Moroccan Blood and Derivatives Agency have signed a strategic partnership agreement.

The Minister of Health, Amine Tehraoui, emphasized that this agreement marks a significant advancement in the improvement of healthcare services in Morocco. He noted that this partnership aims to ensure the sustainability and safety of the blood and plasma collection and distribution system, in accordance with international standards for blood transfusion.

This initiative plans to implement a series of important actions, including awareness programs highlighting the importance of blood and plasma donation, particularly among the general public. It also encompasses the creation of training programs for healthcare professionals, with a particular focus on research and innovation in the fields of blood transfusion and public health.

Among the flagship projects, the agreement outlines the establishment of modern plasma collection centers and the development of mobile units to ensure comprehensive coverage across all regions of the Kingdom. Furthermore, the convention includes complementary initiatives such as the creation of a national platform for the analysis of blood samples and the strengthening of the supply chain to ensure the quality of blood products. Another vital element of this agreement is the promotion of research and development in advanced areas such as plasma fractionation, as well as gene and cell therapies.

Thus, this agreement represents a major step towards ensuring Morocco’s self-sufficiency in blood products and enhancing its capacity to address future health challenges.
