Strengthening Moroccan-Gambian Cooperation on Security: Meeting Between the Interior Ministers

Strengthening Morocco-Gambia Relations through Enhanced Cooperation

In a bid to reinforce the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Gambia, Moroccan Interior Minister Mr. Abdelouafi Laftit welcomed his Gambian counterpart, Mr. Abdoulie Sanyang, during an official visit to Morocco from April 7 to 11.

This meeting is part of ongoing efforts following the signing, on January 25, 2024, in Dakhla, of a memorandum of understanding on security between the two nations, according to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior. Both ministers expressed a shared commitment to enhancing cooperation across various areas of security, particularly in the fight against terrorism, irregular migration, transnational crime, as well as drug trafficking and human trafficking.

Several key cooperation priorities were established during the meeting. These include organizing specialized training sessions for Gambian police officers, focusing on areas such as canine police operations, sports safety, and anti-money laundering efforts. Additionally, an exchange of expertise was planned in fields such as criminal investigations, biometric identification, and public order management.

On the sidelines of this visit, the Gambian delegation is scheduled to visit the Royal Police Institute in Kénitra to explore the institute’s training programs, canine units, and educational facilities.

This visit marks a new chapter in the Morocco-Gambia cooperation dynamic, aiming to establish a model of solidarity and effectiveness in regional and international security matters.
