Strengthening Tourism Cooperation Between Morocco and Panama

On Thursday, February 6, 2025, a virtual working session brought together Ms. Fatim-Zahra Ammor, Morocco’s Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, and Ms. Gloria De León, General Administrator of the Panama Tourism Authority, with the presence of Ms. Bouchra Kadiri Boudchich, Morocco’s Ambassador to Panama.
This meeting is part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, particularly following Panama’s historic decision on November 21, 2024, to suspend any recognition of the so-called “Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.” This action has been celebrated by both parties as a pivotal step towards enhancing cooperation between the two nations.
During this meeting, Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor and Ms. Gloria De León expressed their satisfaction with the prospects offered by this new dynamic and highlighted the opportunities it presents for developing partnerships in the tourism sector. The Moroccan minister emphasized the need to finalize the memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation to formalize and structure future collaborations.
In this context, several initiatives were proposed. Ms. Ammor suggested organizing a road show in Morocco to promote Panamanian tourism offerings to Moroccan travel agencies. She also recommended that the Moroccan National Tourism Office participate in the 14th edition of the Expo Turismo Internacional Fair, which will be held in Panama from March 25 to 27, 2025, to enhance Morocco’s visibility as a tourist destination and explore new partnership opportunities.
This dialogue between the two ministers underscores the importance of accelerating tourism and trade exchanges between Morocco and Panama, leveraging both countries’ rich cultural heritage and natural assets to attract visitors and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
