The 2030 World Cup: A Lever for Human and Social Development in Morocco

The organization of the 2030 FIFA World Cup in Morocco is part of a development dynamic that combines economic and social aspects, stated Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), during the World Football Summit (WFS) Rabat 2025 held on April 9 and 10 at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P).
Lekjaa emphasized that this project aligns with a strategic vision aimed at promoting sports as a lever for social inclusion, in accordance with the enlightened vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This vision highlights the parallel development of economic and social aspects, with sports as a driving force behind this transformation.
The FRMF President explained that organizing major sporting events, such as the 2030 World Cup, is part of a long-term strategy. This strategy not only focuses on infrastructure development but also on enhancing training and mentoring capacities to position football as a vehicle for human development. “The human legacy of this event is crucial, as it will allow us to educate young people about the values of football and promote unity and coexistence among peoples,” he added.
He also highlighted the importance of football as a universal sport, capable of bringing people together across borders and promoting values of solidarity and collective effort.
On his part, Achraf Fayda, Director General of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), discussed the role of the 2030 World Cup in enhancing Morocco’s international image. He pointed out that the remarkable performance of the national team during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar contributed to increasing Morocco’s visibility. For the 2030 World Cup, Fayda specified that efforts would be focused on trans-Mediterranean mobility to strengthen the development of national tourism.
Enrique Ojeda Vila, Spain’s ambassador to Rabat, also spoke, highlighting that this World Cup would present a unique challenge as the first to be hosted across two continents. He emphasized the involvement of youth in this event, a human aspect that holds significant importance for the organizers.
The WFS Rabat 2025, themed “Cultivating the Future Legacy of the World Cup for Africa,” is being held in partnership with EVOSPORT, a subsidiary of UM6P, and in collaboration with the FRMF. The event has laid the groundwork for this ambitious organization, aimed at making the 2030 World Cup a driver of economic, social, and tourism development for Morocco and the region.
