DGAPR Takes Strict Measures to Ensure Prison Security Amid Rise in Smuggling Attempts During Eid al-Fitr

The General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) has expressed its firm commitment to implementing strict organizational measures to ensure the security of correctional facilities. This statement comes after reports that some families of inmates are attempting to exploit the exceptional meal baskets provided during Eid al-Fitr to smuggle prohibited items or substances into prisons.

In an official statement, the DGAPR clarified that it exceptionally grants meal baskets to inmates during religious holidays as part of a decision aimed at providing psychological support to prisoners and strengthening their ties with their families. The administration is deploying the necessary human and logistical resources to ensure the smooth execution of these operations.

However, certain families have misused this initiative by attempting to smuggle prohibited products disguised within the meal baskets, violating existing laws. During the recent Eid al-Fitr celebrations, attempts to introduce illegal substances were reported in several correctional facilities. Among these attempts, cakes and other permitted food items were allegedly mixed with psychotropic pills, which could threaten the security and order within the prisons, according to the statement.

As a result, immediate legal actions have been taken against those involved, and the relevant prosecution offices have been informed of the recorded cases. It was highlighted that the meal baskets had become the primary means for introducing these banned products into the facilities.

The DGAPR concluded by stating that it will not tolerate any illegal or irresponsible behavior from the families of inmates and will take all necessary measures to ensure the safety of correctional institutions, as well as the security of both inmates and staff.
