The Grand Stadium of Tangier: A Showcase of Moroccan Excellence

The Grand Stadium of Tangier stands today as an emblematic showcase of Morocco’s excellence, expertise, and know-how in the design and management of sports infrastructure.

According to the Spanish media outlet The Objective, the remarkable renovation of this complex confirms the Kingdom’s capacity to undertake international-scale projects that meet the highest global standards.

A Roof Installed in 69 Days: A World Record

One of the highlights of this modernization is the complete installation of the new roof, which covers 55,000 square meters, accomplished in just 69 days—a world record in the field of sports infrastructure.

This technical feat demonstrates the high level of engineering and organizational mastery attained by Morocco.

Designed with remarkable precision, this innovative roof provides climate resistance, energy efficiency, and optimal natural light, all while presenting a modern aesthetic to this iconic venue.

A Stadium at the Forefront of Global Modernity

Thanks to this renovation, the Grand Stadium of Tangier now ranks among the most modern stadiums in the world.
The project is part of the national program for the modernization of sports infrastructure led by the Kingdom, in anticipation of two major events:

  • the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025,

  • and the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.

The Objective emphasizes that this transformation illustrates Morocco’s strategic vision to equip its major cities with next-generation sports infrastructure that meets FIFA standards and the demands of global sports.

High-Level Facilities Aligned with FIFA Standards

In addition to the roof, the Grand Stadium of Tangier has undergone several major improvements:

  • Increased seating capacity to 75,000 spectators,

  • Removal of the athletics track to bring the audience closer to the field,

  • Installation of state-of-the-art hybrid grass compliant with international standards,

  • High-performance LED lighting system suitable for global television broadcasts,

  • Backup power supply to ensure the continuity of operations in the event of an incident.

These facilities make the stadium a model of innovation and sustainability, in line with Morocco’s strategy to integrate green and digital technologies into its public infrastructure.

Morocco: Africa’s Leader in Sports Engineering

This renovation aligns with Morocco’s aim to position itself as a continental leader in sports engineering and infrastructure management.

The Grand Stadium of Tangier project also illustrates international cooperation and the skill enhancement of Moroccan companies, which are capable of delivering world-class projects within record timeframes.

Thus, the Kingdom confirms its status as a major player in global sports, ready to host the most significant international events and promote the image of a modern, ambitious, and forward-looking Morocco.
