On Tuesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, welcomed Michaël Delafosse, the Mayor of Montpellier, during his visit to Morocco.

Following their meeting, Mr. Delafosse conveyed his deep appreciation for the historic friendship that unites the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic. He emphasized the importance of building this relationship on foundations of equality and mutual respect, asserting, “We have much to learn from one another.” He also expressed a mutual desire to open a new chapter in cooperation between the two nations.

In this spirit, the Mayor of Montpellier advocated for the mobilization of all concerned parties—local elected officials, representatives from the cultural, sports, and academic spheres—to promote the mobility of students and researchers and strengthen collaborative pathways between the two countries.

This collaboration is part of the preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.

Lastly, the French mayor praised the active role of the Moroccan community in France, especially in Montpellier, highlighting its essential contribution to enhancing bilateral relations.
