The play “Hom” (Them) by the Anfass troupe represents Morocco at the 15th edition of the Arab Theatre Festival, taking place in Muscat, the capital of Oman, from January 9 to 15. This festival, initiated by the Arab Authority for Theatre in cooperation with the Omani Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth, as well as the Omani Theatre Association, features 15 performances selected from 175 proposals by a scientific committee.

The Moroccan play is competing in the premier category for the prestigious Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al-Qasimi Award, conferred by a member of the UAE Supreme Council, the governor of Sharjah, and the president of the Arab Authority for Theatre.

Among the other competing works are notable productions from various Arab countries, including “Legend of the Frankincense Tree” by the Mazoun troupe from Oman, “Al-Boukhara” from Tunisia, “The Refuge” from Jordan, “The Institution” from Bahrain, “Between Two Hearts” from Qatar, “Feather” from Palestine, “Circus” from Iraq, “Ghassat Oubour” from Kuwait, “How Do We Forgive Ourselves?” from the UAE, and “Macbeth” from Egypt.

As part of this edition, a tribute will be paid to the winners of the Arab competition for theatrical scientific research, which has the theme “Heritage and Theatre, and Beyond Arab Theatrical Heritage: A Critical Vision for a New Arab Formulation.” Among the winners is Zahra Ibrahim from Morocco, who secured first place, alongside Hussein Al Rahawi, also from Morocco, and Hossam Mohyi Eddin from Lebanon.

The Arab Theatre Festival has become a significant event, providing a platform for reflection and discussion among Arab artists regarding the evolution and future of theatre. In addition to the performances and competitions, this year’s edition includes a congress featuring numerous Arab playwrights and theatre artists, a symposium on theatrical publications in the Sultanate of Oman, a colloquium on theatre and artificial intelligence, as well as three sessions dedicated to publishing signings.
