On Wednesday in Rabat, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad, Nasser Bourita, met with Gustavo Pacheco Villar, the president of the Andean Parliament. This meeting aimed to strengthen ties between Morocco and Latin America.

During a press statement, Mr. Pacheco Villar reaffirmed his support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over its Sahara, emphasizing the Kingdom’s commitment to upholding international law. He also praised the progress made by Morocco, particularly in the Southern provinces, in terms of development and economic dynamism.

The president of the Andean Parliament expressed his desire to promote South-South cooperation between Latin America and Morocco, highlighting that the Kingdom serves not only as a gateway to Africa but also to Europe.

For his part, the vice-president of the Andean Parliament, Colombian Deputy Óscar Darío Pérez, commended Morocco’s economic development under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, especially in areas such as infrastructure, energy transition, environmental protection, poverty alleviation, and the enhancement of GDP and the quality of life for citizens.

Mr. Pérez stressed the importance of mutually beneficial South-South integration, particularly in economic and social fields, urging a strengthening of cooperation in trade, industry, human resources, technology, culture, and services. He also highlighted Morocco’s strategic role due to its economic growth and geographic position as a key partner for the European Union and the United States.

The Moroccan Parliament, an observer member and advanced partner of the Andean Parliament, continues to contribute to the strengthening of relations between the Kingdom and Latin American countries. Established in 1979, the Andean Parliament represents the peoples of the five Andean countries: Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile, working towards legislative harmonization, cooperation between the parliaments of member states, and the support of participatory democracy and regional integration.
