The Spring of the Jacaranda: A Theater at the Heart of Mediterranean Souls

Nourished by the splendor of a prestigious past, the Riad Sultan Theatre is reborn amid the vibrant atmosphere of the second edition of the “Jacaranda Spring for Mediterranean Theatre” in May 2025. This cultural landmark, nestled in the heart of the historic city, is once again becoming an artistic hub—a space for dialogue between cultures where heritage intertwines with modernity in a vibrant harmony.
More than just a festival, it is a sensory and human experience—a celebration of living art in all its forms theater, poetry, music, dance, and storytelling—that awaits you. This spring, the stage transforms into a mirror of human diversity, a ground for exchange and emotion, where every performance pays tribute to the Mediterranean imagination.
Three standout events on this week’s program:
On Friday, May 16, at 4 PM
The thought of Jean Genet, an unparalleled figure in Mediterranean literature, will be at the heart of an academic meeting titled:
“Jean Genet: A Plural Echo at the Confluence of Mediterranean Imaginaries.”
Led by renowned scholars and artists—Omar Fertat, Pierre Katuszewski, Rachid Montassir, Zohra Makach, Abdelmadjid Azouine, Abderrazak El Amri, Mohamed Seff, and Albert Dichy—this roundtable pays homage to a poetic and theatrical body of work that transcends cultural and identity boundaries.
On the same day at 7 PM
The audience is invited to a meeting with the esteemed director and actor Hassan Kouyaté, who will share insights into his artistic journey. His testimony reflects on key influences in his life, notably that of Peter Brook, a towering figure in contemporary theater. This exchange promises an immersion into a living, sensitive, and profoundly human theatrical practice.
On Saturday, May 17, at 7 PM
The highly anticipated return of Faouzi Bensaïdi to the stage with a poignant solo performance:
“We Will Forget You,” an immersion into the poetry of Mahmoud Darwish.
Between love, exile, war, and beauty, Bensaïdi gives voice to the verses of the Palestinian poet in a vibrant theatrical sweep. He weaves a universal narrative of the human condition, blending raw strength with poetic delicacy. A work of rare intensity, honoring Darwish’s legacy and the universality of his words.
The Jacaranda Spring is an open invitation to experience theater differently: as a space for awakening, beauty, questioning, and connection.
An event not to be missed.
