The United Arab Emirates has declared itself in a state of defense following what it characterized as a “brutal and unjustified” Iranian attack, executed with ballistic missiles and drones targeting infrastructure and civilian sites on its territory.
A Large-Scale Attack on Civilian Sites
In a statement released by the Emirates News Agency (WAM), UAE authorities indicated that the attack involved the launch of over 1,400 ballistic missiles and drones, aimed at several vital installations and civilian areas, resulting in casualties among the population.
A Violation of International Law
The statement emphasizes that this attack represents a serious violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, as well as a direct assault on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the United Arab Emirates, threatening the security and stability of the nation.
The Right to Self-Defense
The United Arab Emirates reaffirmed that it does not seek escalation or an extension of the conflict, but reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and national security.
Protection of Citizens and Residents
The authorities clarified that any action taken by the state falls within the framework of the legitimate right to self-defense, in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter, to ensure the safety of citizens and residents and to maintain the stability of the country.
