Traffic Accidents: A Alarming Week in Urban Areas
During the week of March 24 to 30, a staggering 19 individuals lost their lives, and 3,002 others sustained injuries, including 105 severe cases, in 2,169 traffic accidents that occurred within urban areas. This distressing data was released in a statement by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
The primary causes of these accidents include driver inattentiveness, failure to respect right-of-way, excessive speed, pedestrian negligence, and violations of safe distance regulations. In addition, other contributing factors such as a lack of vehicle control, unauthorized or unindicated lane changes, disregard for traffic signals, and entering against the flow of traffic have also played a role in these unfortunate incidents, as noted by the DGSN.
In terms of monitoring and penalizing violations, security services issued 45,160 citations, prepared 8,706 reports submitted to the prosecution, and collected 36,454 transaction fines. The total amount of fines reached 7,902,150 dirhams. Furthermore, a total of 4,998 vehicles were impounded by municipal authorities, 8,706 documents were confiscated, and 432 vehicles were immobilized.
