Tunisia and Senegal Share the Spoils in GOAL-Laden Africa U-17 Cup of Nations Showdown
On Friday, Tunisia and Senegal fought to a 0-0 draw at El Abdi Stadium in El Jadida during the second matchday of Group C in the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations (CAN U17).
In the other match in the group, The Gambia demonstrated a commanding performance, overpowering Somalia with a 5-1 victory. Gambian striker Alieu Drammeh was the star of the match, scoring a hat-trick with goals in the 4th, 16th, and 76th minutes. Anas Isse Mohammed added to the tally in the 48th minute, while Bisenty Mendy rounded off the scoring with a goal in the 89th minute. Somalia’s solitary goal came from Liban Kalif Mohamed in the 45+3rd minute.
Following this matchday, Tunisia leads the group with 4 points, narrowly ahead of Senegal on goal difference. The Gambia sits in third place with 3 points, while Somalia is at the bottom of the group with no points.
The tournament features twelve teams divided into four groups and also serves as a qualifying event for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which is set to take place later this year in Qatar. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarter-finals and qualify for the World Cup, while the remaining two qualification spots will be determined through playoff matches involving the teams that finish third in their respective groups.
