Updated Weather Alert: Extreme Conditions Expected
The National Meteorology Directorate has issued an updated alert, signaling extreme weather conditions anticipated across several regions of the Kingdom starting Monday. Strong winds, significant snowfall, heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, and cold temperatures have been forecasted.
Strong Winds and Precautions
The orange-level alert warns of powerful wind gusts reaching speeds of 75 to 90 km/h in the following provinces: Al Hoceïma, Larache, Fahs-Anjra, Chefchaouen, M’diq-Fnideq, Tétouan, Tanger, Assilah, Figuig, Nador, Jerada, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, Berkane, Driouch, Guercif, Ifrane, Taza, Boulemane, Sefrou, Kénitra, Taounate, Fès, El Hajeb, Midelt, and Errachidia. These winds are expected to occur on Monday, from midnight to 6 PM.
Significant Snowfall
Snowfall is anticipated at elevations starting from 1500 meters, with accumulations ranging from 40 to 60 cm in the areas of Al Hoceïma, Sefrou, Boulemane, Taza, Guercif, Ifrane, Midelt, Beni Mellal, Khénifra, and Tinghir. In other regions such as Al Haouz, Azilal, Ouarzazate, and Chefchaouen, accumulations are expected to vary between 10 and 40 cm. This snowy period will extend from Monday at 2 PM to Wednesday at noon.
Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms
Intense rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, is forecasted, with totals of 50 to 80 mm expected in the provinces of Tanger, Assilah, Ouezzane, Fahs-Anjra, Al Hoceïma, Chefchaouen, Tétouan, Larache, and M’diq-Fnideq, while provinces such as Kénitra, Sidi Kacem, Salé, Sidi Slimane, Khémisset, Taza, Sefrou, Ifrane, Fès, Meknès, El Hajeb, Khénifra, Azilal, Beni Mellal, and Moulay Yacoub can expect between 30 and 50 mm. These rains are set to occur from Monday at 6 AM to Tuesday at noon.
Expected Cold Weather
The National Meteorology Directorate also predicts cold weather, with temperatures ranging between 0°C and -6°C on Tuesday in the provinces of Al Haouz, Azilal, Tinghir, Midelt, and Ouarzazate.
