Weather Alert: Disruptions Expected on Several Roadways Due to Severe Weather Conditions

The Ministry of Equipment, Transport, Logistics, and Water has announced that several roadways may be disrupted due to severe weather conditions, including snowfall, heavy thunderstorms with hail, and gusty winds. These phenomena are forecasted by the General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) from Friday night until Monday, affecting various provinces across the Kingdom.
According to an official statement, the DGM’s weather alert bulletin predicts significant snowfall in mountainous regions exceeding 1,500 meters, with snow accumulation ranging from 25 to 60 cm in the provinces of Ifrane, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Midelt, Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Guercif, Sefrou, Taza, Boulemane, Khenifra, Al Haouz, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Chichaoua, and Taroudant. Simultaneously, thunderstorms accompanied by hail are expected, with precipitation reaching from 25 to 130 mm in areas such as Tanger-Assilah, Chefchaouen, Tétouan, Larache, Fahs-Anjra, Al Hoceima, MDiq-Fnideq, Ouezzane, Kenitra, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Taza, Ifrane, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Khenifra, Essaouira, Safi, Agadir-Ida-Ou-Tanane, Taroudant, and Khemisset.
In addition, strong wind gusts with dust storms are anticipated in several provinces, impacting regions such as Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Fahs-Anjra, Tanger-Assilah, Larache, Tétouan, MDiq-Fnideq, Guercif, Sefrou, Ifrane, Boulemane, El Hajeb, Taza, Meknès, Kénitra, Khemisset, Rabat, Skhirate-Temara, Sale, Benslimane, Mediouna, Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Berrechid, Settat, Mohammadia, Nouaceur, Casablanca, Youssoufia, Marrakech, Essaouira, Chichaoua, Rehamna, Safi, Ouarzazate, Taourirt, Figuig, Jerada, Zagora, Tinghir, Midelt, Errachidia, and Tata.
In light of these conditions coinciding with the weekend holidays, the ministry advises postponing any travel to these areas unless absolutely necessary. It also recommends avoiding travel at night and checking the mechanical condition of vehicles before hitting the road, paying particular attention to the battery, brakes, lights, tire pressure, and windshield wipers.
The ministry urges caution, especially on road sections that might be submerged, such as low points and river crossings (oueds). It is further advised not to cross submerged roads during floods, to avoid speeding, refrain from sudden maneuvers, and maintain a safe distance between vehicles.
Lastly, the ministry emphasizes the importance of following road signage and adhering to the instructions of local authorities and field brigades to ensure smooth and safe travel.
