Weather Alert in Morocco: Heavy Rains, Snow, and High Winds Expected Across Multiple Provinces
The General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has announced the imminent arrival of heavy rains, snowfall, and at times very strong winds across several provinces of the Kingdom, scheduled for Friday and Saturday. This comes as a part of alert bulletins classified at red and orange levels.
Intense rainfall, particularly in mountainous regions, is anticipated from Friday at 5 PM until Saturday at 6 PM, with accumulations expected to range between 80 and 120 mm. The provinces of Agadir Ida-Outanane, Taroudant, and Essaouira are under a red vigilance warning.
Additionally, moderate to locally heavy rains (30 to 45 mm) are forecasted for the same timeframe in the provinces of Safi, Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Chtouka Ait Baha, Inezgane, Aït Melloul, Tiznit, Chichaoua, Al Haouz, and Youssoufia, which will be under an orange vigilance.
The DGM also predicts snowfall at altitudes above 1,600 meters, with expected accumulations between 10 and 30 cm on Saturday from midnight to 6 PM, particularly in the provinces of Midelt, Tinghir, Azilal, Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Taroudant, and Chichaoua.
Lastly, strong to locally very strong winds, with speeds reaching 95 to 105 km/h, will blow through the provinces of Al Haouz and Chichaoua on Friday. Gusts of 90 to 100 km/h will affect El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Essaouira, Midelt, and Azilal. Winds of between 75 and 90 km/h are also expected in several other provinces, including Marrakech, Agadir Ida-Outanane, Taroudant, Oujda-Angad, and Taourirt.
