Weather for Sunday, January 18: Thunderstorms and snowfall in several regions of the Kingdom

The General Directorate of Meteorology predicts unstable weather for Sunday, January 18, characterized by variable precipitation, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms, across several regions of the Kingdom. These rain showers will primarily affect the northern and central plains, the Souss region, the Rif, the Saïss, the phosphate plateaus, Oulmès, as well as the Mediterranean coasts and the Atlas mountains and their western slopes.
Snowfall Expected in Mountainous Areas
Significant local snowfall is anticipated in the Atlas mountains, the Rif, and the eastern high plateaus. Authorities are urging vigilance, particularly in mountainous regions and on exposed roadways.
Overcast Skies and Rain in the East and South
The sky will remain generally cloudy to overcast, with precipitation expected in the eastern region, the Saharan provinces of the Kingdom, and the Southeast, maintaining an unstable atmosphere for a significant part of the day.
Drop in Temperatures and Gusty Winds
The weather will remain relatively cold in the Atlas mountains, the Rif, the Southeast, and the high plateaus, accompanied by moderate to occasionally strong gusts of wind, particularly in central regions, mountainous areas, the southern provinces, and the northern plains.
Significant Drop in Temperatures
Minimum temperatures will range between -8 and -2 °C in the Atlas mountains, between -2 and 3 °C in the Rif, the Southeast, and the eastern high plateaus. Along the coasts, temperatures will fluctuate between 7 and 12 °C, while the rest of the Kingdom will experience temperatures between 3 and 7 °C. Maximum temperatures are expected to see a noticeable decrease compared to the previous days.
Sea Conditions
The sea will be calm to slightly choppy in the Mediterranean, slightly choppy to rough in the Strait of Gibraltar, very rough to locally high between El Jadida and Tarfaya, and rough to strong along the rest of the national coastline.
