Wydad: Mohamed Amine Benhachem Steps Down Following CAF Cup Elimination

The Wydad Athletic Club (Wydad AC) and its coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem have mutually announced the termination of their collaboration, just a day after the team’s elimination from the CAF Cup against Olympique de Safi (OCS).
Dissatisfaction Among Wydad Supporters
This decision comes at a time when Wydad supporters were not satisfied with the coach’s performance and had hoped for success in this continental competition. The club stated that all contractual obligations had been fulfilled, and Mohamed Amine Benhachem expressed his gratitude to the club, staff, and players for their collaboration.
Rumors: Patrice Carteron as a Potential Successor
According to rumors, the next coach of Wydad AC could be the Frenchman Patrice Carteron, who is already known in Morocco for his experiences with prestigious clubs. This appointment is aimed at revitalizing the Wydad AC team and achieving the last two objectives of the season: the Botola Pro championship and the King’s Cup.
Failed Transfer Window and Inconsistent Team
The separation also marks the end of a collaboration characterized by a failed transfer window, with the recruitment of former stars who did not deliver the expected results, contributing to an inconsistent team. Despite some strong moments on the pitch, the sporting vision was not fully aligned between the coach and management. The Wydad, a major figure in Moroccan football, is set to turn the page and begin a new chapter under a new coach to pursue its national and continental ambitions.
