Accountants at a Pivotal Turning Point

10th Edition of the Order of Chartered Accountants Congress: A Focus on Sustainability, AI, and Talent Development
Under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the 10th edition of the Order of Chartered Accountants (OEC) Congress took place on November 13 and 14, 2025, in Rabat. The event brought together over 500 participants, including ministers, leaders, and international experts.
The Future Accountant: Architect of Trust
The congress theme, “Sustainability, AI, Talent: The Winning Strategy,” highlighted the significant transformations redefining the role of accountants and the economic landscape in Morocco.
Faïçal Mekouar, president of the OEC, emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) is disrupting value chains and enhancing competitiveness. He stressed the importance of translating the directives of the New Development Model (NMD) into tangible actions.
According to him, accountants are evolving into "architects of trust," responsible for:
- Ensuring the reliability of non-financial data
- Integrating ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) criteria into company strategies
- Supporting ecological and digital transitions
AI and Digital Infrastructure Serving the Economy
The congress also served as a platform to announce the launch of the first phase of the national 5G network, a strategic lever for digital inclusion and regional competitiveness.
Morocco is also accelerating the development of sovereign data centers, such as the Dakhla facility, which boasts 500 MW powered entirely by renewable energy, symbolizing the convergence of digitalization and sustainability.
Impacts on Skills and Employment
Chakib Benmoussa elaborated on how AI is redefining professions, changing required skills, and necessitating a profound reorganization of tasks. The High Commission for Planning is working to:
- Strengthen national databases
- Integrate new indicators
- Map sectoral changes related to digital and ecological transitions
Sustainable Finance and Talent Development
Brahim Benjelloun Touimi underscored the role of financial markets in addressing the growing demand for green energy, digital solutions, and industrial growth. Financial and non-financial transparency is becoming crucial for:
- Building trust
- Attracting investments
- Training talents in sustainable finance, blockchain, DeFi, and data analytics
This initiative aims to position Morocco as a regional and Mediterranean hub for financial innovation while supporting the country’s economic and technological transformations.
