Reopening of the Grand Stadium of Tangier After Modernization
After several months of extension and upgrading work, the Grand Stadium of Tangier is reopening its doors to host a friendly match between Morocco and Mozambique.
The renovation has increased the stadium’s capacity to 75,500 seats, making this sports facility a world-class venue in compliance with FIFA 2030 standards and one of the largest stadiums on the African continent.
An Iconic and Innovative Sports Complex
The Grand Stadium of Tangier, located in the heart of Tangier’s Sports City, spans nearly 74 hectares and serves as the city’s main sports hub. Managed by SONARGES, it offers facilities that promote daily sports practice as well as green spaces for outdoor activities.
The stadium features three tiers of seats in blue and white, a VIP/VVIP section accommodating 1,300 spectators, and 142 boxes that can host between 10 and 20 people each. The hospitality area has space for 210 guests.
State-of-the-Art Technologies and Infrastructure
The playing field is equipped with a hybrid natural turf, a first in Africa, combining natural grass with synthetic fibers for optimal performance and enhanced durability.
The facilities also include:
4 changing rooms for the teams, equipped with massage rooms, cryotherapy, and warm-up areas.
A mixed zone of over 500 m².
A press box and conference room for 210 journalists.
Audio-visual control rooms and giant screens of 220 m² with a peripheral screen measuring 700 meters.
Enhanced Security and Accessibility
The operations surveillance center (VOC) includes nearly 900 cameras and facial recognition technology to ensure security.
The stadium also features:
VVIP parking (400 vehicles) and VIP parking (600-700 vehicles).
Public parking for 3,000 vehicles.
Two elevators for improved accessibility for people with reduced mobility at all levels.
