Achraf Hakimi Crowned Best African Player in Ligue 1 with the Marc-Vivien Foé Award 2025

Moroccan International Achraf Hakimi Named Best African Player in Ligue 1 for 2024-2025 Season

Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi has been awarded the title of Best African Player in Ligue 1 for the 2024-2025 season, securing the Marc-Vivien Foé Prize, as announced by Radio France Internationale (RFI) in partnership with France 24 this Monday.

This prestigious award recognizes a remarkable season for the Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender, who has been a cornerstone of the Parisian club and a source of pride for the Moroccan national team, the Atlas Lions.

RFI praises Hakimi as an "exceptional athlete," combining speed, precision, and effectiveness. He is capable of transforming his flank while also posing a constant threat within the opposing penalty area. His unique offensive skill set has solidified his reputation as the undisputed reference for right-backs in France, culminating in a stellar season that PSG hopes to crown with its first UEFA Champions League victory.

“It’s a pride for me to join the ranks of great players who have won this award. It’s a recognition for my entire season,” Hakimi stated while receiving his trophy.

With this accolade, Hakimi becomes the fourth Moroccan player to receive this honor, following Marouane Chamakh (2009), Younès Belhanda (2012), and Sofiane Boufal (2016). He also succeeds Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who won the award in 2024 while playing for Olympique de Marseille.

Established in memory of the late Marc-Vivien Foé, a Cameroonian midfielder who tragically passed away during a match in 2003, this prize is awarded by a panel of 80 experts, including journalists, consultants, and former professional footballers.
