OMI: No Country Has the Right to Close the Strait of Hormuz

No Country Has the Right to Close the Strait of Hormuz, Says IMO Secretary-General

On April 13, Arsenio Dominguez, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), stated that no country has the right to close the Strait of Hormuz to maritime navigation.

Reference to International Law

In a press briefing, he emphasized that international law guarantees freedom of passage and safe transit through straits used for international navigation, noting that any restriction of this right would violate international standards.

A Global Strategic Passage

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most vital maritime routes in the world, through which a significant portion of global energy trade flows. This makes it a crucial point for economic stability and international maritime security.
