Egypt Announces a Natural Gas Discovery of 330 Billion Cubic Feet in the Western Desert

Egypt has announced the discovery of a new natural gas field estimated at around 330 billion cubic feet, a find made by Agiba Petroleum in the Western Desert. This announcement is part of a recent series of energy discoveries that confirm the intensification of exploration activities in the country.
According to initial data provided, this field also includes associated volumes of condensate and crude oil, enhancing its economic appeal. Egyptian authorities emphasize that the proximity to existing infrastructure should allow for relatively quick and low-cost production startup.
This discovery comes at a time when Egypt is ramping up exploration projects, particularly in partnership with international companies such as Eni and BP, to bolster its domestic production and reduce dependence on gas imports, especially during high-energy demand periods.
Beyond the announcement itself, this new reserve illustrates Cairo’s strategy of capitalizing on areas that are already partially exploited by focusing on fields close to existing industrial networks to expedite their production.
Thus, Egypt reinforces its status as a regional gas hub in the Eastern Mediterranean and North Africa amid a global context characterized by significant market volatility and increased competition for gas resources.
