Global Automotive Giants Strengthen Their Investments in Tangier

The Tangier region continues to attract leading international players in the automotive industry. Boosted by its proximity to European markets, modern infrastructure, and industrial competitiveness, the city reaffirms its status as a crucial platform for foreign investments, particularly from China.
A New Wave of Chinese Investment in the Automotive Sector
The Moroccan automotive sector is experiencing a renewed momentum with the arrival of several Asian industrial groups. Among these is the Chinese manufacturer Zhejiang Asia-Pacific Mechanical & Electronic (APG), which specializes in braking systems and vehicle electronic control technologies. APG plans to open its first factory outside of China within the Mohammed VI Tangier Tech City by the end of 2026.
This project represents an estimated investment of $70 million and reflects the growing confidence of Chinese industrialists in Morocco’s potential.
Century Tire Chooses Tangier Over Spain
Another illustration of this attractiveness is the decision by the Chinese group Century Tire to relocate an industrial project originally planned for Spain to Tangier Automotive City. Facing regulatory and environmental constraints in Galicia, the company ultimately opted for Morocco, where it plans to invest over 3.6 billion dirhams.
This decision underscores the competitiveness of Morocco’s industrial ecosystem amid a global context characterized by strategies of reshoring and proximity of production sites to European markets.
The Electric Battery Sector is on the Rise
The growing prominence of electric mobility is also benefiting Tangier. The global giant Shanshan, a leader in the production of synthetic graphite anodes for batteries, has partnered with the Canadian company Falcon Energy Materials to develop an industrial operation in the region.
Concurrently, the Chinese manufacturer Shandong Daye announced an investment exceeding one billion dirhams to establish its subsidiary Daye Morocco, which will specialize in producing steel wires for the tire industry.
In the same vein, AEW Automotive Systems has commenced the construction of a new factory dedicated to manufacturing automotive components within the Tangier Free Zone.
European and American Suppliers Strengthen Their Presence
The allure of Tangier is not limited to Asian investors; several major international suppliers are also expanding their operations in the region.
These include the German company ZF, a specialist in advanced mobility technologies; Mubea, focusing on composite and carbon fiber materials; the Romanian firm MP Industry, which specializes in plastic injection; and the American company Gentherm, an expert in automotive climate control systems.
This diversity of players contributes to strengthening the local industrial ecosystem and solidifying Morocco’s position as one of the leading automotive hubs on the African continent.
Tangier, a Driver of Morocco’s Industrial Strategy
With its efficient industrial zones, openness to international markets, and advantageous geographical position, Tangier is emerging as a major center for automotive production.
The continuous influx of foreign investments confirms Morocco’s ability to attract high-value projects and play a central role in new global supply chains, particularly in the automotive, electric battery, and advanced industrial technology sectors.
