Burundi Reaffirms Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty over the Sahara at Meeting in Rabat

Title: Burundi Affirms Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty over Western Sahara
On Monday, the Republic of Burundi reiterated its steadfast support for the territorial integrity of Morocco and its sovereignty over the Sahara region during the first session of the Morocco-Burundi Joint Cooperation Commission held in Rabat.
This official stance was articulated in a joint statement signed by Burundian Foreign Minister Albert Shingiro and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad.
In this document, Minister Shingiro commended the international efforts led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI in favor of Morocco’s claim to the Sahara, highlighting the Moroccan autonomy initiative as the only credible and realistic solution to resolve the regional dispute surrounding this issue.
The Burundian diplomatic chief also reaffirmed his country’s consistent position of unequivocally endorsing the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco while emphasizing the central role of the United Nations as the exclusive framework for the political resolution of this matter.
This support falls within the context of strengthening bilateral ties between Morocco and Burundi and reflects a convergence of diplomatic views on issues of sovereignty, regional stability, and South-South cooperation.
