The 93rd session of INTERPOL’s General Assembly concludes its proceedings.

The 93rd Interpol General Assembly concluded its work on Thursday in Marrakech, affirming a series of significant resolutions aimed at enhancing the operational and strategic capabilities of the international criminal police organization. The event gathered over 800 delegates from 179 countries, including 82 police chiefs, to discuss key global security issues.

Strengthening the Fight Against Transnational Threats

Discussions largely focused on the rising power of transnational fraud centers, as well as the urgent need for enhanced cooperation to enforce the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime. Delegates also approved the continuation of the pilot phase for financial notices and alerts, a mechanism designed to optimize the dissemination of financial information in international criminal cases.

Interpol General Assembly: Legal Framework and Regional Presence

Among the resolutions adopted was the enhancement of Interpol’s regional presence, aimed at improving coordination on the ground. A revision of the legal framework concerning data handling was also confirmed, alongside the adoption of the strategic framework for 2026-2030.

Election of the New Interpol President

A highlight of this session was the election of Frenchman Lucas Philippe as Interpol’s President for a four-year term. He succeeds Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi (UAE), whose term has come to an end. The General Assembly also elected five new members to the Executive Committee, including a vice president for Asia and representatives for Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Next Interpol General Assembly Scheduled for 2026

It was officially announced that the next session of the Interpol General Assembly will take place in Hong Kong, China, in 2026. On this occasion, Morocco’s Director General of National Security, Abdellatif Hammouchi, presented the organization’s flag to the representatives of the host country during an official ceremony.

Closure in the Presence of High Authorities

The closing ceremony took place in the presence of several dignitaries, including:

  • Mohamed Ben Ali Koman, Secretary General of the Council of Arab Ministers of Interior

  • Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Morocco

  • Fouzi Lekjaa, Minister Delegate in Charge of Budget

  • General of Corps Mohamed Haramou, Commander of the Royal Gendarmerie

  • Mohamed Yassine Mansouri, Director General of Studies and Documentation

  • Khatib El Hebil, Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region

As the supreme governing body, the Interpol General Assembly constitutes the largest gathering of officials from law enforcement agencies. It enables member states to share their expertise, assess major global crime trends, and adopt resolutions crucial for international security cooperation.

Founded in 1923, Interpol now encompasses 196 member countries. Its central mission is to strengthen national security capacities, promote the exchange of information, and support the fight against transnational crime networks, cybercrime, terrorism, and various forms of global threats.
