Marsa Maroc Takes a New Step with the Arrival of a Large-Capacity Vessel at the Port of Casablanca

Marsa Maroc has announced the arrival of a large-capacity vessel at the multipurpose terminal of the Port of Casablanca, marking a significant milestone since the commissioning of the first phase of the dock deepening project. This operation involves a 200-meter sugar bulk carrier chartered by the Cosumar Group, transporting nearly 55,000 tons of raw sugar.

This port call was made possible by the new water depth of 12 meters now available at the terminal, allowing for the accommodation of larger vessels under improved operational conditions. For the port operator, this event represents the first tangible realization of the anticipated benefits from the expansion and modernization works of the multipurpose terminal at the Port of Casablanca.

As part of its development strategy, Marsa Maroc plans to extend the terminal’s length to 530 meters by 2028, which will increase its overall capacity to over 8 million tons. This expansion aims to enhance logistical performance and the competitiveness of the port in handling bulk goods.

This project also falls within a dynamic industrial partnership between Marsa Maroc and Cosumar. Both groups emphasize the importance of this collaboration, described as a lever for joint growth and optimization of supply chains.

Thanks to the deepening works and joint operational improvements, Cosumar will now be able to charter larger capacity vessels, thereby reducing logistical costs and enhancing the efficiency of its port operations.
