Morocco and the United States Launch Joint Military Center to Train African Armies

The Morocco and the United States are taking a significant step forward in their defense cooperation. The two countries have signed a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of a multidisciplinary military training and experimentation center in Morocco, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of the Royal Armed Forces as well as those of partner African armies.

This initiative reflects the shared intention of Rabat and Washington to deepen their strategic partnership and promote security cooperation across the African continent.

A Signature During a Visit to AFRICOM

The agreement was signed during a working visit to the headquarters of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) in Stuttgart, Germany, by General Mohammed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone.

During this occasion, the Moroccan military leader led a high-level delegation in accordance with the directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.

During the visit, discussions were held with AFRICOM Commander, General Michael Langley, focusing on enhancing bilateral military cooperation and future prospects for its development.

A Regional Center Dedicated to Military Training

According to the Royal Armed Forces, the future center will not only train Moroccan and American military personnel but will also include staff from partner African armies.

This new facility aims to become a regional platform specialized in training, experimentation, expertise sharing, and the development of operational skills.

The project also seeks to improve interoperability among partner armed forces, encourage innovation in defense, and better address the security challenges facing the African continent.

A Strategic Roadmap Through 2036

The establishment of this center is part of the implementation of the 2026-2036 defense cooperation roadmap, signed in Washington on April 16, 2026.

This strategic agreement sets the main directions for military cooperation between the two countries over the next decade, with a particular focus on training, joint exercises, operational capability development, and strengthening regional partnerships.

Morocco Strengthens Its Role as a Strategic Partner in Africa

Through this initiative, Morocco reaffirms its position as a key player in security cooperation in Africa. The creation of this military training center underscores the strength of the relationship between Rabat and Washington and their shared commitment to promoting regional stability.

This project is also expected to enhance the Kingdom’s role as a regional platform for military training and defense cooperation, serving the needs of African countries.
