Ebola: The European Union Allocates 15 Million Euros for the DRC and Uganda

EU Announces €15 Million Humanitarian Aid for Ebola Response in DRC and Uganda

The European Union has announced a humanitarian aid package of €15 million aimed at supporting health responses to the resurgence of the Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Uganda.

This funding is designed to enhance emergency measures in the two countries, particularly in medical care, epidemiological surveillance, and support for local healthcare systems that have been heavily burdened by the virus’s spread.

According to European authorities, this assistance is part of a broader international effort to rapidly contain the outbreak and limit the risks of regional transmission, especially in areas where healthcare systems remain fragile.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently classified the situation as a public health emergency of international concern, underscoring the need for enhanced coordination among the affected countries and international partners to curb the virus’s outbreak.

The current epidemic primarily affects certain regions of the DRC and has also recorded cases in Uganda, reviving concerns among humanitarian organizations and global health agencies.

In response to this situation, the European Union has reaffirmed its commitment to support prevention, treatment, and epidemic control efforts in Central Africa, in collaboration with national authorities and specialized international organizations.

This new funding adds to previous financial support mobilized by the EU in recent years as part of ongoing efforts to combat Ebola and other health crises on the African continent.
