Moroccan Citrus: Record Exports and Strong Momentum in International Markets

Moroccan Lemons Solidify Their Global Presence
Moroccan lemons are making a strong impact on the global citrus market, exhibiting particularly robust export performance during the 2025/2026 campaign. The Kingdom has seen a notable increase in shipments, bolstered by rising international demand and improved competitiveness within the national agricultural sector.
Between October 2025 and March 2026, Morocco exported approximately 11,400 tons of lemons, generating over $6 million in revenue. This volume already surpasses the previous season’s total by 17% and represents more than double the exports recorded during the 2023/2024 season, confirming a marked recovery after several years of fluctuations.
This achievement brings Morocco closer to its historical record set during the 2019/2020 campaign, when exports reached around 17,000 tons. The current momentum reflects a gradual consolidation of the Kingdom’s position in the international lemon market.
The growth in exports can be attributed to strong demand across several key markets, alongside a diversification of destinations. Russia remains the main buyer, followed by Mauritania and the United Kingdom, while Spain and various other European and African markets are also showing significant growth.
Saudi Arabia stands out with a remarkable increase in its imports, indicating the emergence of new opportunities for Moroccan exporters. In contrast, some traditional markets, such as Canada and several West African countries, have reported a decline in import volumes.
This trend reinforces the rise of Moroccan export agriculture, supported by investments in production and logistics chains, as well as a strategic focus on diversifying international markets.
