Morocco-Chile: Rabat and Santiago Aim to Accelerate Their Trade and Economic Cooperation

Morocco and Chile Committed to Revitalizing Economic and Trade Relations
Morocco and Chile are striving to give a fresh impetus to their economic and trade relations. In a meeting held on Tuesday in Rabat, officials from both countries expressed their mutual desire to enhance bilateral exchanges and develop new partnerships across several strategic sectors.
This ambition was highlighted during a meeting between Omar Hejira, the Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, and Paula Estévez, Chile’s Vice Minister of Trade. The discussions focused on potential cooperation in trade, investment, and the development of exchanges among economic operators in both nations.
The two parties identified several high-potential sectors for collaboration, including agriculture, mining, renewable energy, and port infrastructure. These areas are seen as significant levers for stimulating investments and strengthening trade exchanges between Rabat and Santiago.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Paula Estévez announced the adoption of an action plan aimed at intensifying trade relations and opening new avenues for cooperation. She noted that her visit to Morocco is accompanied by a delegation of about thirty Chilean companies exploring the opportunities offered by the Moroccan market.
The Chilean official also emphasized the importance of the planned B2B meetings between businesses from both countries, declaring that Chile serves as a gateway to Latin American markets, while Morocco represents a strategic hub for accessing the African continent.
Omar Hejira reiterated that this initiative aligns with Morocco’s strategy to diversify its international economic partnerships. He highlighted that trade exchanges between the two countries remain below the potential offered by the strong diplomatic relations between Rabat and Santiago.
Additionally, the Secretary of State underscored the role of the Morocco-Chile Business Forum, which is expected to help businesses from both nations identify new opportunities for investment, partnership, and exports.
Given their strategic geographic positions and roles as regional trading platforms, Morocco and Chile aim to enhance their economic cooperation while expanding their presence in African and Latin American markets.
This meeting thus reaffirms the commitment of both countries to strengthen their economic partnership and continue dialogue between public and private stakeholders to develop high-value joint projects.
