Uganda Temporarily Closes Its Border with the DRC Following Ebola Resurgence

Immediate Border Restrictions
According to Diana Atwine, an official at the Ugandan Ministry of Health, this measure takes effect immediately to limit the risks of virus transmission.
Exceptions will be made only for authorized Ebola response teams, humanitarian operations, and the transport of food and goods, provided they undergo strict health checks.
Mandatory Quarantine for Travelers
Authorities have also announced that anyone entering Uganda from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) will face a mandatory 21-day quarantine under medical supervision.
As part of the preventive measures, Ugandan media outlets will now be required to dedicate 30 minutes of their prime-time programming each day to raise awareness about Ebola and prevention methods.
Seven Confirmed Cases in Uganda
Since the official announcement of the outbreak on May 15 in the Ituri province in northeastern DRC, Uganda has reported seven confirmed cases of the “Bundibugyo” variant of the Ebola virus.
Health authorities in the region remain on high alert to contain the spread of the disease.
