The World Health Organization announced on Wednesday that the number of confirmed cases of the Hanta virus linked to an outbreak aboard a cruise ship has risen to 13.
Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the WHO, stated in a post on platform X that a new case had been reported in Spain among the quarantined passengers, bringing the total number of infections to 13.
The organization also clarified that three individuals have died as a result of the illness.
According to the WHO, no new victims have been recorded since May 2. Health authorities believe that the situation remains stable, with the infected individuals continuing to receive necessary care, while other passengers are still under health observation.
The cruise ship “MV Hondius,” identified as the primary source of the outbreak, was evacuated approximately two weeks ago, with all passengers having disembarked.
International health authorities continue to monitor the situation to prevent any further spread of the virus.
