Morocco Placed in Pot 2
FIFA announced on Tuesday the official procedure for the final draw of the 2026 World Cup, scheduled for December 5 in Washington. This event will determine the composition of the 12 groups of 4 teams each, which will host the 48 qualified nations for this historic edition.
According to the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking as of November 19, 2025, Morocco is placed in Pot 2, alongside nations such as Croatia, Colombia, Senegal, Switzerland, and Japan.
Distribution of Pots and Draw Rules
The three host countries—Canada, the United States, and Mexico—are automatically placed in Pot 1 and assigned to positions A1, B1, and D1, in accordance with organizational requirements. The rest of Pot 1 consists of the highest-ranked teams: Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.
FIFA specifies that the draw will proceed successively from Pot 1 to Pot 4. The latter will also include the winners of the European playoffs and the intercontinental playoff tournament.
Geographical Constraints and Competitive Fairness
As in previous editions, geographical restrictions will apply:
Only one representative from each confederation will be allowed per group.
However, for UEFA, two teams may be in the same group, given its 16 representatives. Each group, nonetheless, must include at least one European selection.
To maintain competitive balance in the tournament, the four top-ranked nations will have a specific distribution in the two brackets leading to the semifinals. Thus:
Spain (1st) and Argentina (2nd) will be placed in opposite halves of the draw.
Similarly, France (3rd) and England (4th) will also be positioned to avoid any premature matchups before the final, provided they secure first place in their groups.
Official Match Schedule
FIFA will announce the complete schedule, including the list of stadiums and match times, on December 6, the day after the draw. The scheduling will take into account:
teams’ recovery times,
logistical constraints,
and the multiple time zones, to facilitate worldwide followers’ engagement with the tournament.
