Boulemane: A 251 Million Dirham Project to Secure Drinking Water Supply
The drinking water supply project for the cities of Missour and Ouatat El Haj, as well as several municipalities in the province of Boulemane, sourced from the Hassan II Dam, is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2026.
This strategic initiative, mobilizing an investment of nearly 251 million dirhams, aims to secure drinking water supply for approximately 130,000 residents, while enhancing the region’s resilience against water stress and the impacts of climate change.
The project will also benefit the municipalities of Qasabi Melouia, Yezght, Sidi Boutib, Ramila, Al-Arjan, Tissaf, Afritissa, and Oulad Ali Youssef. It includes the construction of four main water transport pipelines, costing around 234 million dirhams, along with pumping stations, reservoirs, a chlorination station, and various electromechanical and electrical equipment.
Part of the program of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) and financed by the African Development Bank, this project aims to meet the rising demand for drinking water and compensate for the gradual decline of groundwater resources.
The commissioning of this infrastructure is set to improve the continuity and quality of drinking water services while strengthening the hydraulic infrastructure in the province.
Beyond providing for the populations, this project serves as an important lever to support the development of the Boulemane province and sustainably enhance its water security in the face of challenges related to population growth and climate change.
