After the Victory: Sadio Mané Bids Farewell to the Africa Cup of Nations

The Senegalese star Sadio Mané has concluded his participation in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by leading Senegal to a 1-0 victory against Morocco in the final, a match he termed as his last in his African career.
Mané: The Architect of Senegal’s Triumph
The final was characterized by a tense atmosphere following the awarding of a penalty against Senegal during stoppage time. Coach Pape Thiaw had urged his players to leave the field in protest. However, Mané persuaded his teammates to stay and continue the match, allowing the team to keep fighting.
In extra time, Senegal scored the decisive goal, clinching the title for the second time in three AFCON editions.
Player of the Tournament and On-field Leader
Mané was named the best player of the tournament, praised for his outstanding performances and leadership. His ability to motivate his teammates during critical moments was widely acknowledged by fans and experts alike, confirming his crucial role in Senegal’s success.
A Farewell to AFCON?
After the match, Mané told international media:
“Is this my last AFCON? Yes, I believe I’ve said it. I’m stopping here. The next generation is ready and will take over. I will be their twelfth player.”
However, his coach expressed hope that he might reconsider:
“I think he made this decision in a moment of anger. The country disagrees, and as a coach, I absolutely do not agree.”
