Barid Al-Maghrib Unveils Commemorative Stamp in Tangier

On Saturday in Tangier, Barid Al-Maghrib revealed a commemorative postage stamp issued in honor of Morocco hosting the 58th session of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development Conference (COM 2026). The events take place from March 28 to April 3 in the city located at the strait.

The unveiling ceremony for this special issuance coincided with the opening of the 44th meeting of the experts’ committee of COM 2026 and the 58th session of the ECA. Key attendees included Amin Benjelloun Touimi, the Director General of Barid Al-Maghrib, Mama Keita, the Deputy Executive Secretary of the ECA responsible for program support, and Mohamed Arrouchi, the Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Morocco to the African Union (AU) and the ECA.

Also present at the ceremony were Hanan Morsy, the Deputy Executive Secretary responsible for the program and Chief Economist of the ECA, and Mohamed Tarik Bchir, President of the outgoing experts’ committee of COM and interim Director of Treasury and External Finances at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

According to Barid Al-Maghrib, the design of this stamp prominently features the logo of the African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development Conference alongside a stylized representation of Africa, symbolizing unity and cooperation among member states.

The visual identity of the conference integrated into the stamp reflects its theme: “Growth through Innovation: Leveraging Data and Cutting-edge Technologies for Africa’s Economic Transformation.” Graphic elements evoke growth and innovation, while the colors and motifs inspired by Moroccan heritage pay tribute to the host nation, the Kingdom of Morocco.

With this commemorative issuance, Barid Al-Maghrib reaffirms its commitment to supporting major events organized by the Kingdom of Morocco and promoting the image of both Morocco and the African continent through philately.

It is worth noting that the African Ministers of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development Conference (COM 2026), held annually, brings together African ministers, policymakers, development partners, researchers, and representatives from the private sector to examine key economic and development issues that will shape the continent’s future.
