Drinking Water: Casablanca-Settat Accelerates Desalination with 27 Mobile Units

A Rise in Alternative Solutions

In the context of dwindling water resources, the Casablanca-Settat region is focusing on innovative solutions to secure its drinking water supply. The SRM is currently leading a program of 27 monobloc stations, combining seawater desalination and brackish water treatment to diversify sources of supply.

Enhanced Production Capacity

With an estimated overall capacity of 8.19 million cubic meters per year, these facilities support the regional water supply system. The project, backed by a funding of 400 million dirhams, reflects a commitment to anticipating future pressures on water resources.

Deployment Already Well Underway

On the ground, the implementation of the program is progressing rapidly, with a completion rate exceeding 80%. A significant portion of the equipment is already operational: 19 stations are currently in service, spread across several provinces, notably Settat and El Jadida.

Over 2.1 Million Cubic Meters Already Supplied

Since coming into operation, these stations have produced over 2.1 million cubic meters of drinking water. This contribution is already alleviating pressure in certain areas, especially in rural communities.

New Capacities Expected by May 2026

The program is entering its final phase with 8 additional stations under construction. Five of these are expected to be operational by the end of April 2026, while three others, being built in Mansouria, are anticipated to provide a capacity of 60 liters per second, the largest in the project, expected by the end of May 2026.

Technology Adapted for Water Emergencies

Based on the principle of reverse osmosis, these units offer rapid production of high-quality water. Their modular design allows for targeted installation in the most exposed areas, providing a concrete response to the immediate needs of the population.
