Marrakech 2026: An Edition Marked by Renewal

The city of Marrakech is hosting the 14th edition of the “Zahria of Marrakech,” a celebration of the bitter orange blossom season, organized by the Muniya Association in partnership with national institutions, from March 22 to April 12, 2026. This edition is themed around “renewal,” taking place in an exceptional natural context and as part of a new legislative framework that strengthens the protection of Morocco’s cultural heritage.
An Extraordinary Spring Reviving Nature
The Marrakech region has experienced unprecedented rainfall, rejuvenating nature after years of drought, in what can be deemed a “spring of miracles.” This transformation is evident in the bitter orange trees, adorned with bright white flowers that spread their fragrance throughout the city.
The bitter orange blossom is not merely a natural phenomenon; it also symbolizes the cycle of life and renewal: on the same tree coexist the fruits of the past, the buds of the future, and the blossoms of the present, illustrating the continuity of time.
A Rich Cultural Program Across the Region
To celebrate this season, the “Zahria of Marrakech” offers a diverse program of cultural and artistic activities that will take place in different areas of the region. The aim is to bring this heritage closer to a wider audience and enhance its presence in society.
International Recognition That Elevates Heritage
This season carries an international dimension, as it has been listed as part of the intangible cultural heritage of the Islamic world (ICESCO), reflecting its historical and cultural value. The Muniya Association of Marrakech is also working towards its recognition as a World Heritage site, a step intended to amplify its international reach.
A New Law for Heritage Protection in Morocco
The debate surrounding Law 33-22, adopted in June 2025, represents a key moment of this edition, marking significant progress in involving civil society in heritage protection. This law aims to strengthen coordination among institutions and stakeholders to ensure effective and sustainable cultural heritage preservation.
Additionally, it will be announced that an expert committee will be formed, bringing together specialists in architecture, urban planning, and heritage, with the goal of preserving the “riad” as a major element of Marrakech’s architectural identity.
An Itinerant Season Expanding to Universities and Rural Areas
For the first time, the season transcends the boundaries of the medina to include university institutions and rural areas, such as Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, Cadi Ayyad University, the city of Kelaa des Sraghna, and the Setti Fatma region in the High Atlas.
These activities encompass scientific meetings and sensory workshops involving experts in perfumery and aromatherapy, thereby strengthening the academic and practical dimensions of the event.
Various Activities Over 22 Days
This edition’s program includes several cultural activities, such as:
- Distillation ceremonies of orange blossom water in historic and cultural locations
- Traditional weaving and bread-making workshops
- Storytelling performances and folk heritage narratives
- Literary and intellectual meetings
- Tributes to notable figures in the fields of culture and architecture
Muniya Association Marrakech: A Commitment to Living Heritage
The Muniya Association of Marrakech continues its efforts to preserve and enhance Moroccan heritage, making the “Zahria” a platform for cultural and social renewal. This edition reinforces Marrakech’s position as a global capital of living heritage and its ambition to strengthen its presence in the collective memory of humanity.
