The Service Sector Confirms Its Role as the Main Driver of Employment in Morocco

The service sector continues to solidify its position as the leading driver of employment in Morocco, according to the latest data released by the High Commission for Planning.

Nearly Half of Workers Employed in Services
In the first quarter of 2026, this sector provided jobs for 5,085,000 individuals, accounting for 49.1% of all paid workers in the country. This reaffirms its central role in the labor market.

Agriculture Holds the Second Position
Following the service sector, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries rank second, employing 2,541,000 people, which represents 24.5% of the total workforce. The industrial sector comes next, with 1,409,000 workers, or 13.6%.

Construction Remains a Pillar of Employment
On its part, the construction and public works sector employs 1,314,000 individuals, making up 12.7% of the workforce, further emphasizing its importance in the national employment landscape.

A New Statistical Framework
These results stem from the new "2026 Labor Force Survey," the first edition of a modernized system aligned with international standards set by the International Labour Organization. This survey replaces the previous national employment tracking system.

Structural Changes in the Labor Market
The data highlights the progressive transformation of the job market in Morocco, characterized by the increasing weight of services, while maintaining the structural role of traditional productive sectors.
