São Paulo Street Carnival 2025: A Record of Participation and Festivities

São Paulo Street Carnival to Reach Historic Heights in 2025 with 767 Blocos
São Paulo’s street carnival, one of the most famous in the world, is set to reach a historic milestone in 2025 with the registration of 767 "blocos," the festive parades where music, dance, and costumes create an explosion of collective joy, municipal authorities have announced. In total, 860 parades are expected, with some groups performing multiple times throughout Brazil’s economic capital.
The festivities will kick off with the pre-carnival celebration on February 22 and will continue until the weekend of March 8 and 9, extending beyond Ash Wednesday, which falls on March 4.
With its 767 "blocos," the 2025 carnival will set a new record, significantly surpassing the previous record of 644 groups in 2020. After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the party gradually resumed in 2023 with 475 parades, increasing to 579 in 2024.
"We are ready to welcome revelers with an even safer and better-structured carnival. Every detail has been meticulously planned to ensure safety and comfort," stated Gustavo Pires, president of SPTuris, the municipal body responsible for the organization.
To support this immense celebration, the city has signed a contract worth 27.8 million reais (approximately 5.1 million euros) with Ambev S.A., a sponsor already involved in 2024, marking an increase of 1.2 million reais from last year.
