Celebration of Africa Day at the AU Headquarters

Africa Day Celebrated at the African Union Headquarters
Africa Day was celebrated on Monday at the headquarters of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, under the theme "Sixty-three (63) Years of Unity, Integration, and Development: Let’s Celebrate Together."
On this occasion, the Chairperson of the AU Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, stated that Africa Day is both a celebration of "our shared heritage" and an acknowledgment of Africa’s growing role on the global stage. He emphasized that the continent continues to advocate for solidarity, cooperation, and shared humanity in an increasingly uncertain world.
Over the past year, Africa’s voice has gained prominence on the world stage, he added, highlighting that "our permanent membership in the G20 marks a historic step towards Africa’s involvement in global economic decision-making and significantly contributes to international solutions regarding peace, climate issues, food security, trade, health, and sustainable development."
He reaffirmed the AU’s unwavering commitment to the aspirations of Agenda 2063 and "the Africa we want," noting that the African Union is also advancing institutional reforms aimed at building a stronger, more effective, and responsive Union that can meet the aspirations of the continent’s people.
Africa remains united in calling for a fairer and more representative multilateral system, including a comprehensive reform of the United Nations Security Council to rectify long-standing historical injustices against the continent, he continued.
The celebration of Africa Day was marked by various sporting and cultural events.
