Sustainable Tourism: UNESCO and the TUI Care Foundation Launch a Global Partnership Including Morocco

UNESCO and TUI Care Foundation Launch Global Partnership for Sustainable Tourism Development
The UNESCO and TUI Care Foundation have announced the launch of a global partnership dedicated to the sustainable development of tourism in UNESCO World Heritage sites. Initial initiatives are set to take place in Morocco and Zanzibar. This collaboration aims to promote a more responsible, inclusive tourism model that benefits local communities.
In Morocco, the program will focus on the iconic Aït Ben Haddou Ksar, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The objective is to enhance the cultural appeal of the site while encouraging more sustainable tourism capable of generating greater economic benefits for residents, artisans, and local players in the tourism sector.
The partnership will include several initiatives designed to improve the tourist experience and preserve local cultural heritage. Proposed actions include the creation of new cultural circuits, training for local guides and entrepreneurs, as well as the development of digital tools for promoting heritage and local traditions. Special attention will be given to women and youth to encourage their integration into the economic activities related to tourism.
Both organizations emphasize that the growth of global tourism is increasingly putting pressure on many heritage destinations. Therefore, this partnership seeks to demonstrate that well-managed tourism can contribute to the protection of cultural heritage while supporting local economic development.
Beyond local projects, UNESCO and the TUI Care Foundation also aim to strengthen international cooperation around sustainable tourism practices through the sharing of expertise, awareness programs, and increased mobilization of public and private sector stakeholders in tourism.
This initiative comes at a time when Morocco is actively pursuing its tourism development strategy through 2030, with the ambition of solidifying its position among the leading international cultural and tourism destinations.
