Soft Wheat: Morocco Reinstates Import Duties for Two Months

Morocco has decided to temporarily restore import duties on soft wheat for a period of two months. This decision comes amid an improvement in national cereal production and a reorganization of the mechanisms for supplying the domestic market.
This measure continues the adjustments made by Moroccan authorities in recent years, aimed at balancing local supply and imports according to harvest levels and market needs. It follows a period of significant reliance on international wheat purchases, particularly due to drought episodes that have impacted agricultural production.
According to industry professionals, the restoration of import duties also aims to support the marketing of national production and regulate incoming flows to avoid excessive pressure on local prices during the harvest period.
Soft wheat is a strategic product for the kingdom’s food security, and its management undergoes regular adjustments based on climatic conditions, available stocks, and the evolution of global prices in international markets.
This decision comes as the 2025-2026 cereal campaign shows signs of improvement compared to previous years, allowing Morocco to temporarily reduce its dependence on imports while enhancing the value of local production.
