Strengthening Bilateral Relations: Moroccan and Spanish Leaders Meet in Granada

The President of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, met on Thursday in Granada with the President of the Spanish Congress, Francina Armengol, as well as the European Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Suica, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations.

These discussions took place on the sidelines of the international forum on the future of the Mediterranean, organized in the context of Spain’s presidency of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union for the Mediterranean (AP-UpM).

During his meeting with Mrs. Armengol, Mr. Talbi El Alami emphasized the high level of relations between Morocco and Spain, and the two parties discussed ways to deepen these ties further. They also stressed the importance of intensifying communication and coordination between the two legislative institutions. Additionally, they discussed the upcoming Morocco-Spain parliamentary forum, a privileged space for dialogue on common issues such as climate change, immigration, infrastructure, and the organization of the 2030 World Cup.

Regarding his discussions with Mrs. Suica, the talks focused on how to promote parliamentary cooperation in various areas. The European Commissioner praised the “strategic partnership” between Morocco and the European Union, describing the cooperation on migration as “exemplary.”

The international forum, which is being held in Granada from April 2 to 4, brings together the presidents and vice-presidents of the parliaments of all Member States of the AP-UpM, addressing essential themes such as migration movements, climate change, youth employment, and gender equality in the Mediterranean region.
